• Bakuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol and comes from a plant. Retinols are the darlings of the beauty world and they smooth out wrinkles, fade away dark spots and increase collagen. However, there is a price to pay with using lab created retinols. Retinols dry out and irritate your skin, you can’t go out in the sun after using them and they are a big no no when pregnant as they have been shown to cause birth defects in animals. Enter Bakuchiol. Dubbed “the natural alternative to retinol”, it is a more gentle version of retinol– without the nasty side effects. Bakuchiol comes from the leaves and seeds of babchi (Psoralea corylifolia) plant, native to India. It’s been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. Now it is making its debut in natural skincare products, too. Bakuchiol may not be as powerful as retinoids, but it can still help you fight premature aging without trigging a flare-up and is much better for your body.

• Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar that is naturally produced by the body. Found in high concentrations within the skin, Hyaluronic Acid is responsible for the skin’s plumpness and volume. Also found in the fluid that surrounds the eyes and joints. Hyaluronic Acid in skincare is a humectant which means that it attracts moisture towards it and acts like a sponge that can attract and retain 1,000 times its own weight in water. This makes it an excellent non-comedogenic hydrating ingredient. Essential for maintaining the skin’s moisture balance, Hyaluronic Acid also helps smooth skin texture.
